Sorry go, being found innocent is not the same as being trusted with children. My kids are too valuable to roll the dice with questionable people. Just being around criminals disqualifies you in my eyes from being around kids because it shows bad judgement and there are plenty of other people to hire besides shady characters, convicted or not.

Exactly my sentiment silentparent.

If you put yourself in a position to be around anything that jeopardizes your reputation you are not qualified to be around a group of children.

The fact that he was involved has nothing to do with the forum and has everything to do with the "fact" that law enforcement felt that had enough evidence or knowledge of the situation to arrest him.

There are plenty of people that have never been accused of a crime, but may curse too much, drink to much, etc. that I would never let my children around. Someone that has actually been arrested and faces charges of this nature disqualifies him from being around any children even before he is found guilty or innocent in a court of law.

And yes, he is in the public eye. He may not be a celebrity, but he represents a club made up of cop-workers, parents and most importantly children. He is a potential influence on any children that he crosses paths with because of his profession.

This is not the same as a poor decision that resulted in a DUI or a traffic ticket, these allegations are criminal in nature.

If you go to www.dentoncounty.com, then click on "judicial records search", then click on "jail records" and type in "Tahlon Drake", you will find that a man by that name was arrested on a warrant, presumably out of Denton PD, on November 9, 2012 for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. There is a mugshot on the page as well. Being arrested does not necessarily mean you are guilty. The offense that he is charged with can be difficult to prove. However, in order to be arrested, the arresting agency must have "probable cause". You can find the offense of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity in sec. 71.02 of the Texas Penal Code. There are a lot of different ways to commit this particular offense. In my experience, it is typically a felony.

Again, this man has not been convicted of anything at this point. I don't know him. My DD does not, and has never, played for Liverpool and I haven't formed any opinions on that club. That being said, when it comes to my children, I am very concerned about the quality of the people in their lives that they are spending significant time with. Maybe this guy is the Jesse Pinkman of some organized crime outfit. If so, the next question should be.....Does LP employ the Walter White character as well? But it doesn't stop there!!! I am a police officer and as such I know the threshold to arrest someone is called "probable cause" which means in laymans terms, A reasonable ground for suspicion supported by circumstances. Its a pretty low threshold! When I arrest someone I file my report to our CID division and they investigate it and determine if there is enough to file charges with the DA's office. The DA's office then determines if they want to take the case to the Grand Jury. Then the Grand Jury then decides if they want to True Bill the charges. If they True Bill it, then the charges are placed in a court to decide innocence or guilt by either a judge or a jury. At any point in the process the charges can get thrown out. I have had arrests I made not even make it pass my CID investigators. Sometimes as a responding officer you don't have all the facts about the crime but you know something is amiss, you still arrest and let the CID interview all witnesses. Have you ever heard the phrase "you can beat the rap, but not the ride"? I am not perfect and all knowing and sometimes you know a crime was comitted and the people involved, but not all the details. I know Talon and my dd played for him. I know he is a good person and from a good family. While my dd loves him, we will move on, but I really do hope everything works out for him!

The fact is the guy has been arrested. Whether he gets convicted or not is up to the system and the courts if it gets that far as mcik17 noted. I completely agree with Tigerintx and others though that have said the sharing of this information is pertinent to this forum. It would most definitely affect my decision as to where I would let my DD play, and while the OP was a bit over the top IMHO, I am glad the information has come to light. Each parent has to decide to do with it what they will.

but how would you consider him since he was suspended. He had no team so the information wasn't relevant. If he still had his teams and was looking for players maybe your argument holds water. You are protecting your kid from a guy who doesn't have a team and isn't coaching? scratch

You know I would like to know all of the stuff that DM did in his life and I want a full background check done. I want to make sure my kid is safe. Now sure there are no more rowdies and he isn't coaching or have a team but still you can never be too careful. Thats and awful big truck afterall and where there is smoke there is fire. what about yourselves now that I think about it. May need those background checks too. You may at some point decide to start a team.

I have no issue with the fact that the guy was arrested being put out here, the thing I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that some think Liverpool (or any club for that matter) should inform the ntx soccer community that he was arrested and is no longer with the club. For one it doesn't take a hard core background check to find out the guy was arrested, a free google search does the trick. I think most parents have fine a google search on their coach. So if he does end up coaching somewhere again he will have to answer those questions.

The story was pretty well known a couple if weeks ago so most clubs knew something was up so there was no risk in him just moving to another club without anyone knowing what was up.

I just don't see how this is a big deal. No kids were put in harms way and it sounds like it was dealt with professionally and upfront with all parties directly involved.

This could get interesting since homie claimed he "knows" of other things this coach has done. I'm sure the DA would love to have a chat with homie to find out what he "knows" but man I'd hate to be him if he was just grinding an axe and thought being an Internet blowhard was a way to just say whatever you want with out repercussions. Doesn't matter to me one way or another because either he does know something and he helps take a guy off the streets OR a lesson is learned about slander.

Does this "Homie" have a personal vendetta towards this young man and LP? This young man has had the moral integrity to place his personal information on this "Forum" for those of you who choose to know the facts!! My understanding is he resigned from LP out of respect to the club and the players and parents, all are innocent until proven guilty. What opinion will you have when his name is cleared, and it will be, hopefully ashamed of your ingnorance and judgement.

Usually I respond with some lighthearted poke at the subject of these posts just to make it a little less serious, but goaltender just wrote this rant that made me say HUH??? Just from this forum, on this subject, you know facts. Fact #1 Liverpool hired TD after presumably doing a background check. Fact #2 TD was investigated and arrested by a real police department in the very real Denton County. Fact #3 He's no longer with Liverpool FC or any other Soccer Club. goaltender seems to be mesmerized by this coach. Since this is primarily a topic because he was dealing with young, impressionable children, I will ask goaltender a hypothetical question. If your DD was wanting to signup for dance or gymnastics and some parents, that previously attended the school, told you that the dance/gymnastics teacher had been arrested for a felony, would you still sign up your DD for the classes? My guess (I'm right BTW) is No Way in HELL!!! You'd say "Pass" and move on to the next teacher or studio. You certainly wouldn't say "Well, I guess the arrest was an "accusation" so therefore, he must be o.k." You would be of the opinion that they wouldn't have arrested this guy with nothing to go on. I'm sure that the Denton County Police don't make a habit of arresting people for "organized crime" just to see if they can pin some crime on him. If it's drugs, and they find him with some, they usually will arrest him for possession. If it's running from the police, it would be something like "Evading Police." Since you have such a great relationship with him, maybe you should ask him what was so "Organized" about his crime. Maybe he'll answer you honestly (from his perspective) with a Happy Smile and Positive Attitude. Then tell yourself, that your OK with your DD's Best Friend (as you put it) is a guy that has just been arrested for Organized Crime.

Let's fast-forward 6 years... My DD comes home with a new boyfriend. He's handsome, funny, and charming. The entire family enjoys our time together with him. Then, unexpectedly, he’s arrested for engaging in organized criminal activity.

I don't care how great that boy is, as soon as that arrest happens I’ll use all the leverage I have available to me to end that relationship between that boy and my DD. I don't care if he hasn't been proven guilty in a court of law by a jury of his peers. I don't care if I'm being judgmental or unfair to him. I don't care if he really just needs our emotional support. I’ll only focus on my DD, keeping her safe, and protecting her future. That boy means NOTHING to me compared to her.

Now back to real-time... These coaches, just like Drake, have real influence over our impressionable children. Whether he's wrongly accused or not, I don't care. There are other places we can go. Why wouldn't I make the same decisions now to focus on my DD, keeping her safe, and protect her future?

Being a Christian doesn't mean putting your head in the sand and ignoring the safety of your children. Most people who throw this line out are not Christians but have cliff notes on it and use them in the wrong context.

Guilt by association is a real thing. Even though no on has been "proven" guilty, even the association with the circumstances that would lead to such charges and an arrest - warrant caution and action as BigTex suggests. I'm all for giving people second chances, just not with or around my 9 yr old DD.

Well, I just pray you or somebody close to you never get wrongly accused of something. I have a close friend who went through something similar and it was a terrible experience for all involved. It took him a long time to build his life again, even though he'd done no wrong. I'd rather teach my kids to not judge and be mindful of other people.
