Re: North Texas Meeting
I concur with your conclusion and hope the clubs and coaches do what is best for the players, but that is always up for interpretation, isn't it?
bwgophers wrote:Respectfully disagree. I think most clubs and teams will look at it solely from the standpoint of current roster makeup, and how they plan on handling the transition to calendar year.
The "big" clubs, with multiple teams practicing out of their primary locations, (i.e. Sting Dallas, Texans and Texans South, FCD teams at Frisco) are going to shuffle their rosters to age pure across all age groups quickly. Mainly because they can, and because there is a competitive advantage to doing so.
Smaller clubs, independents, and "directional" teams (i.e. Sting North, FCD East, etc...) are going to decide based on their roster makeup - if the roster has more than 3 or 4 older players on it, they will almost certainly move up a year in order to stay together, (Texans South is probably one exception to this, as they have strong teams and coaching continuity across multiple age groups, and I am hearing that they are planning to realign their rosters to age pure over the summer).
Either way, it's going to be a bit of a mess for a year or two until "natural selection" works it way through and players and teams reshuffle and migrate to their appropriate competitive level. Although I think LHGCL created themselves some additional headaches that aren't really worth it with the Option A/B plan. IMO, Boys CL is handling it the best and most logical way.

Is that rule now abolished so current academy teams comprising of an 05/06 birth year mix can go to QT as a U12 team?
The NTSSA rule says a U10 age player can not play on a U11 competitive team. That has not changed. So next season a player born in 2007 can not play on a competitive team.
In your scenario a 05/06 academy team today could stay together next season and play as a U12 team. I wouldn't suggest doing that because most clubs at the younger ages will more to age pure as soon as they can. Your team would have player 18 months younger trying to go through QT.

Good idea or not, Some coaches need this option to have a team.

There was never a rule about not being able to play up in the first year of select soccer. Soccer years are U10 U12 U14 and so on so the rule read something like a U10 player cannot play up to U12 which really means U11 but once of a select age players can play at whatever age they wish
Re: North Texas Meeting
There never has been a rule that prevented a select (competitive) level player from playing up in age. There is a LHGCL rule that states that a U-11 team may only enter the league via qualifying into U-11. But this is only for the entire team. Once a player reaches competitive age, they may play up to U-18 (youth). There are special rules for a youth player participating in adult competition.the7wolf wrote:So come July 1st, is it official that 06 birth years (U11 at July 1st) can play up with 05s at U12. Re: North Texas Meeting
Younger players are allowed to play in an older age division with the consent of their coach and parents. However, NTSSA rules state that any player who has not attained the proper age to play Under 11 select soccer may not play up on a competitive (select) team. Players must be 10 years old or older on July 31 to
participate in competitive soccer the following soccer year.
That's the SCHOOL YEAR RULE or the OLD SYSTEM. As we transition to BIRTH YEAR RULES or NEW SYSTEM who knows what the rules will be?
Side note: I was watching College Football signing day coverage on ESPN. I noticed that not a single Coach, analyst, commentator, parent, player or anybody else ever mentioned when anybody was born. Could it be that when you are born has nothing to do with whether or not you are a good athlete? Of course it doesn't matter. What's next? I'll start one.....I think that people with freckles below their knees have magical powers. Let's see if that one catches on.

I believe the board meets on Monday night. The rules will most likely be updated shortly after that.OLJW wrote:That's the SCHOOL YEAR RULE or the OLD SYSTEM. As we transition to BIRTH YEAR RULES or NEW SYSTEM who knows what the rules will be?
