The USA women have won gold but that may be over since we can't rely on our volume of female talent. The USA men have won nothing. In soccer I care far more about the performance of the men.

Coachr, I was being sarcastic.....if you didn't catch it. The sports I listed are usually deemed as Rich people sports.....

What does any of this have to do with Solar parents screwing their coaches out of pay?

I'm not going to attempt to defend Solar as I don't know enough about the situation to do so. However, from what I've read in the Morning News about the $800k; there wasn't a pot of $$ lying around that was stolen in a single act of thievery. The $$ was embezzled over a period of time. Much of it consisted of over-inflated billing of "business expenses" - a common tactic to hide personal use of club money.

The problem was a small club growing into a large club, but being run by one or two individuals without any oversight. The misuse of club funds, outright fraud and semi-illegal behavior is a common theme in youth sports. Unfortunately.

Great conversations but unfortunately still no money from Solar.........

I would encourage everyone to make a call to the club president, and inquire. His contact information is listed on-line. Should be an interesting conversation; if he even calls you back..........

OK, I get the fact that there will always be people who loved to kick clubs around (what other excitement would they have). I don't know what every other major club charges, but I do know that there are a number of clubs who charge more than Solar. As to the "permitting the club's president to skim" from what I have been told - Solar didn't permit him anything. He took it upon himself to take those funds and leave the club high and dry. As to increasing the dues, someone already posted that they are not raising the dues just to raise them. Every club is getting hit to cover our wonderful new fields at UTD.

Now for a lighter side. A young boy is sitting with his grandpa and he asks him if he could make a frog sound. The grandpa asks why? The little boy says just cause. The grandpa asks again and finally the little boy says because mama said when you croak we're going to Disneyworld.

You misunderstood what I posted. I never said that Solar permitted its president to skim the funds; I said that Solar's increased dues permitted its president to skim the funds. Comparing apples to apples, it is true that Solar historically charged more than other clubs.

so solar pres was able to net 800k w/out anyone knowing? Texans are 5x larger, how much does their 'owner/pres' bank? I'm sure he does it 'legally' but when we talk about a club charging too much, it's based on how much we are willing to pay, not on how much the pres is going to pay himself or embezzel. btw I can tell solar doesnt pay their coaches, AS is driving a Prius...

still involved in soccer locally at the college level, always interested in the game and youth soccer. I have nothing against club soccer per se, but do have a lot against the negative, verbally and mentally abusive so called 'coaches' who seem to be everywhere in the club system. The yelling, screaming in your face type...these are the people I have a problem with.

He is getting the best coaches in the universe to do endless skills training and free leagues that dont keep score, lol.

so your a college coach, how many of your players get a soccer degree....yeah thats what I thought.

And I will answer sincerely:

I work with many older teenage girls some of whom had poor experiences when they were younger and playing for negative, verbally and mentally abusive coaches. Some were fortunate enough to play for coaches who gave them the freedom to make mistakes, love the game and learn the game. I never yell at them, they know they will not be shouted at, screamed at or yanked from the game if they make a mistake....mistakes are part and parcel of this sport and everyone makes them at every level.

Prior to each season I sit down with the parents and outline the expected behavior.

1) No coaching from the sideline.

2) No negative comments about any players, opponents or our own.

3) No getting on the refs...EVER....sometimes you just have to beat the opponent, the conditions and the ref....just the nature of the game.

As the soccer coach at Johns Hopkins (Leo Weil)said.."You play soccer you don't work soccer"....you can find his other excellent thoughts about coaching this sport on line I'm sure.

And your style works for everyone all the time and every club coach is doing it wrong, right? When is your sponsored soccer utopia starting, Ive held my dd out waiting for what you said was coming.
